Amite County-Charles Jason Powell, a Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper, was killed in a one-car vehicle Thursday while off duty. Powell was traveling on Highway 24 in Amite County when his vehicle left the road and flipped. Powell was assigned to Troop M in Brookhaven. Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
